Merry Old England and the Sour Krauts.

The day dawned crisp and cool. The shower parade started at 0530 and everyone was in there place for breakfast at 0700 hours. After a traditional English breakfast in which Scott consumed most of the toast we were off to tackle London via public transportation. We hopped on the infamous double decker red bus and headed to West Menister Abby. From the church we took pictures of Big Ben. Since we had a London Pass we went to visit the Royal Mews on our way to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Mews is where they keep the carriages and horses used for special occasions for the Royal Family. We didn’t have much time so we quickly went through it.

This is the carriage that Lady Di used to travel to her wedding. They even have a special carriage to carry the crown.
This is the carriage used by Queen Elizabeth at her coronation. Then it was down the street and around the corner to see the changing of the guards. But alas we arrived toooo late and the crowd of people made it impossible to see anything thus started the sour krauts.
The next item on the itinerary was more successful. The kids wanted to go up on the 2nd tallest ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. We received tickets in a timely matter and the kids went on the 30 minute ride while dwight and Launnies rested below.

The view from the Eye was quite spectacular. Here is Caitie with Big Ben in the background while heading up to the top, where it was a 360 degree view.

Trying to add on to our success we headed toward the tube. But every direction we went resulted in no tube. Saw lots of graffiti and policemen. No tube. So we said fine we can take the bus. We sat at the bus stations. Suppose to be a bus every 10 min. No bus. Then realizing we were on the wrong side of the street we ran across to the other bus stop where 2 busses had already passed. Finally after waaayyyyy too much time we caught the third bus to the Churchhill World War II Experience.

Next we headed across the Tower Bridge to see the Tower of London. Dwight and Caitie were tired of walking. They stopped at what they thought was the entrance and sent Scott on ahead to purchase the tickets from the ticket office. Only to come to discover that the ticket office was where they needed to enter and they had stopped at the wrong place. Making Scott have to walk an extra 500 yards. Sour Kraut!

Inside the Tower of London we saw the prisoner towers and dungeons where many had left inscriptions before being executed. We also saw the Crown Jewels of London.

After an hour and a half in the tower we headed out to our boat taxi. We rode it down the Thames River seeing the different sites of London.

The evening came to a close by enjoying a musical from broad way called Blood Brothers. Thanks Karla for recommending such a fantastic play!!

Cheerio till next time!

We chose not to eat at this restaurant!
